Thames Tideway – KEMPF

Project Details

Henny Ltd was contracted to deliver high-specification public realm stone masonry, heavy civils, and specialist drainage installations as part of the Thames Tideway Tunnel project at King Edward Memorial Park Foreshore (KEMPF).

Situated along the River Thames in Wapping, this landmark public realm scheme required intricate heavy-lifting operations, precision stone placement, and marine-environment civil engineering.

Pre-Cast Stone Features & Heavy Craneage

Architectural Stone Installation: Installed large, high-finish white/cream pre-cast stone steps, integrated seating benches, and structural retaining walls across the foreshore park extension.

Complex Lifting Operations: Managed precision craneage operations using a large mobile crane to safely maneuver and set individual pre-cast stone units weighing in excess of 10 tonnes.

Specialist Granite Paving & Public Realm

Namaka Granite Paving: Precision-laid premium Namaka granite paving across multiple key site zones, including the entrance, bandstand area, foreshore, and lower tidal path.

Accessibility Enhancements: Retrofitted custom stainless steel tactile paving indicators onto access stairs to ensure compliance with modern accessibility standards.

Tidal Engineering & Heavy Civils

Lower Tidal Path Feature: Completed specialist paving works along the lower tidal path, a unique design feature engineered to submerge naturally at high tide, recreating historic riverside pathways that predated the main tunnelling works.

Heavy-Duty Drainage Covers: Installed heavy-duty, ram-assisted manhole covers engineered for high load-bearing capacity and easy operational access.
