Colour-coded Grey on the iconic tube map, the 22.5mile Jubilee line is a London Underground line that runs between Stanmore in the suburban north-west and Stratford in east London via the West End, South Bank and Docklands.
Named after Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, and opened in 1979, it is the newest line on the network, although a number of sections of track date back to 1932 and some stations to 1879. Following the extension to east London, the line has seen a huge growth in passenger numbers and is now one of the busiest on the network.
A subsidiary company of Transport for London (TfL), London Underground Limited (LUL) is responsible for operating the London Underground train network and owns (in whole or in part) more than 250 stations.
London Underground Limited are currently undertaking a series of projects across many stations as part of the LUL Step-Free Access programme. The scope of the work involves ensuring step-free access for disabled access points on the platforms.
Henny Ltd were contracted by LUL to undertake work at the six tube stations on the Jubilee Line including Bermondsey, Canada Water, Canary Wharf, London Bridge, North Greenwich, and Waterloo.
All work was performed and completed during engineering hours from 1:30am to 4:30am, which required that all materials and plant equipment had to be taken into, and then removed from the station work site on a nightly basis.
The work was conducted in conjunction with the automatic door company to raise the threshold height of the platform entry/exit doors to match that of any trains stopping at the station. This also necessitated the installation of a temporary metal ramp.
On each work session, an area of existing floor tiling was broken-out and removed, prepared with Ardex rapid drying screed, and then re-tiled using Ardex rapid drying tile adhesive.
