Situated in the bustling Trafford Centre and first opening in 1998, Selfridges Manchester Trafford was the first Selfridges department store to open outside of London. Today, Selfridges owns and operates four stores in the United Kingdom: the flagship store in Oxford Street in London, one in Birmingham and two in Manchester.
The Trafford Centre, Greater Manchester is the third largest indoor shopping centre and leisure complex in the United Kingdom. A total area of 207,000m² features extensive retail, leisure, and dining outlets.
The architectural design and interior of the Trafford centre incorporate elements of Rococo and Baroque design. The need to offer a unique shopping experience was one of the motivations for the Trafford Centre’s unorthodox architectural style. The design is thought to be garish and ostentatious by some, although the possibility of the shopping centre ageing and becoming dated is considered to be much reduced.
Selfridges & Co, in the Trafford Centre features two retail floors and offers shoppers access to unique customer experiences, premium brands, sought-after luxury goods, and fashion and beauty products from established and on-trend designers.
Henny Ltd was tasked by principal shopfitting business contractor Espirit UK to refit and renew floor fixtures and finishes on the lower level of the retail space. All contracted work was conducted ‘out-of-hours’ at night over a three-week period.
The project required the breaking out and removal of 215m² of existing floor finishes, replacing with a new levelling screed, and laying new, bespoke geometric cut, large format porcelain tiles.
The fit, finish and quality of the new flooring had to be exemplary in keeping with the high-quality standards expected and demanded by Selfridges.
